Why Test?
Why Screening Matters
We know that thinking about the possibility of cancer can be overwhelming. However, it’s important to note that, per the American Cancer Society, one in two men and one in three women will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.
As we get older, it’s vital that we receive the testing necessary to ensure our bodies are free from life-altering conditions and diseases. Having studied anti-aging medicine for years, Dr. Berutti, and Melanie Martin, PA, understand very well that cancer becomes a frequent concern in the later stages of life. Their focus is to get you connected with the treatment you need to prevent it from advancing. This process begins by scheduling an appointment to discuss your options for cancer screening in Southlake.
The earlier cancer can be found, the higher the chance of a better outcome. In fact, when cancers are diagnosed early, before they have the chance to spread, the overall 5-year survival rate is 4X higher than when diagnosed in later stages.
And there’s another important point: 71% of cancer deaths are caused by cancers that are not commonly screened for. That’s why the Galleri test is so revolutionary. It can screen for over 50 types of cancer, giving a far better chance of finding cancer before it may have spread.
The Galleri test is recommended for adults with an elevated risk of cancer, such as those age 50 or older. It is for use along with other cancer screening tests, such as mammograms and colonoscopies, and doesn’t replace those vital tests.
How it Works
Cancer Screening Overview
When you visit us for cancer screening in Southlake, we partner with Galleri testing and Myriad testing. These tests can help detect many different types of cancer and check to see if you have the genes associated with an increased risk of certain cancers.
Our Partners
Galleri Testing
When you need to be tested for cancer, Galleri testing provides blood exams for over 50 varieties of carcinomas, leukemias, and sarcomas. This allows your provider to not only narrow down which specific cancer you may have, but how best to get you treated.
This is a breakthrough in early cancer detection: Up to now, medical professionals could only screen for the early detection of breast cancer, colon cancer, prostate cancer, and, to a lesser extent, lung cancer. However, with the Galleri test, we can now screen for many cancers that have in the past been extremely difficult to screen for.
How it Works
The Galleri test is a simple blood draw—that’s it. The proprietary technology then looks for signals present in the blood that may be associated with cancer.
All cells in your body release DNA into the bloodstream, but DNA from cancer cells differs from that found in healthy cells. The Galleri test is highly targeted because it looks at the DNA in your blood to determine if any of it may have come from cancer cells. Then, if the test detects a cancer signal, the results can point to where that signal is coming from in the body with high accuracy.
Myriad Testing
The Myriad test examines 48 genes in your DNA. The result can help you determine if you are at risk of developing 11 different types of cancer. Based on the outcomes of these tests, you can be aware of what your risk is for developing cancer and take the appropriate preventative steps for the future.
