Overview
Microneedling at Dynamic Life Aesthetics
We begin your treatment regimen with a comprehensive consultation. At your consultation, we will discuss your aesthetic concerns, review your medical history, and evaluate your skin. There are some skin conditions for which microneedling is contraindicated. Please be sure to share all of your medical history during your consultation.
We start your session of microneedling by cleansing your skin, then applying a topical anesthetic 15 minutes prior to microneedling to minimize any discomfort.
The procedure takes about 45 minutes, including 15 minutes to numb your skin.
At DLA, we use the SkinPen® microneedling device. This device uses tiny sterile needles to glide gently over the skin, creating tiny punctures that stimulate new collagen and elastin production.
The number of sessions we recommend depends on your treatment goals. Deep acne scars may take 4 sessions, whereas fine lines and wrinkles usually improve after 3 sessions. Sessions are scheduled 4 to 6 weeks apart. Maintenance sessions can be scheduled every 6 to 12 months.
Side effects may include temporary redness, swelling, and flaking.
What It Treats
The needles in the applicator create micro-wounds in the upper layers of your skin. These micro-wounds trigger the body’s natural healing process, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin. Microneedling improves many of the following concerns:
- Acne
- Scars
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Neck, chest, and hand concerns
- Hyperpigmentation
- Large pores
Benefits
- Natural Rejuvenation: Microneedling stimulates the production of collagen and elasatin.
- Safe Treatment: Microneedling in Southlake is an effective method to reduce wrinkles, scars and smooth and even out skin texture without harsh chemicals.
- Minimal Downtime: You will have minimal downtime of 24 to 48 hours.
What to Expect
Preparing for Microneedling
- Let us know if you have a history of mouth sores or oral herpes before your treatment. We may suggest taking an antiviral medication prior to your treatment.
- For seven (7) days prior to your treatment, do not use anti-inflammatory / blood thinners. This includes aspirin, Ibuprofen, Advil, Aleve, Vitamin E, fish oil, and St. John’s Wort.
- Avoid topical skin products such as tretinoin (Retin-A), retinol, retinoids, glycolic acid, or alpha-hydroxy acid or any anti-aging products for at least two (2) days before treatment.
- No waxing, laser treatments, or chemical peels seven (7) prior to treatment.
- Abstain from alcohol, tobacco products, and excessive caffeine for at least 24 hours before your appointment.
- Be sure to discuss all your medications, supplements, and medical conditions with your provider prior to your appointment.
What to Expect During Treatment
Microneedling can be mildly uncomfortable, but not painful. We will use numbing cream for 15 minutes prior to the procedure.
Aftercare for Microneedling
- We will apply a calming serum after your treatment. You will also be given a soothing mask to apply at home to minimize discomfort.
- We will provide you with detailed instructions on your skincare regimen for the next 72 hours post-procedure.
- Avoid strenuous exercise or sweating for 72 hours.
- Avoid all sun exposure for 24 hours.
- After 24 hours, you can apply sunscreen but continue to minimize sun exposure for 7 days following the procedure.
- Avoid wearing makeup for 24 hours or longer to allow your skin to heal.
- Avoid harsh chemicals, tretinoin (Retin-A), retinols, retinoids, alpha hydroxy acids, and salicylic acids until your skin has healed.
- Avoid saunas, swimming pools, steam rooms, and Jacuzzis for 5 days post-treatment.
When to Expect Visible Improvements
Some clients may see subtle results 2 to 3 days after their microneedling procedure in Southlake. Depending on the number of sessions required for your skin condition, full results may not be visible until all sessions are complete.
Microneedling with PRP
At DLA, we offer PRP (platelet-rich plasma) treatments to further enhance your microneedling experience.
This technique involves a simple blood draw, which is then centrifuged to separate the platelet-rich plasma (PRP) from the other blood components.
PRP contains proteins and growth factors that help the skin repair itself. During the microneedling procedure, the plasma is applied to the skin while the SkinPen® causes tiny punctures, which stimulate new collagen and elastin production.
With the addition of PRP with microneedling, you can achieve superior results rather than just microneedling alone. By creating controlled micro-wounds and using growth factors found in PRP, microneedling delivers increased efficacy in regenerating new collagen and elastin.
Pre- and post-care instructions are the same for microneedling with or without PRP.
