More About Dermal Fillers
What Are Dermal Fillers?
A dermal filler is a gel-like substance that is injected into the face for cosmetic purposes. Each brand of filler available has a different purpose: volumizing sagging skin, eliminating wrinkles, sculpting features, and more.
Benefits include:
- Volumizing: From sagging skin to wrinkles, we understand how aging can affect your look. Fillers can help restore lost volume and create a more balanced and symmetrical appearance.
- Facial Contouring: To enhance and contour specific areas of the face, creating a more defined and balanced appearance.
- Long-Lasting: Depending on the type of filler utilized, the outcome can last 6 – 18 months.

Pre & Post-Care Guidelines
Care Instructions
Getting dermal fillers in Southlake is a simple process, and so is recovery. In fact, you will have minimal downtime. We do recommend that you follow these instructions:
Preparing for Dermal Fillers
- Let us know if you have a history of mouth sores or oral herpes before your treatment. We may suggest taking an antiviral medication prior to your treatment.
- For seven (7) days prior to your treatment, do not use anti-inflammatory / blood thinners. This includes aspirin, Ibuprofen, Advil, Aleve, Vitamin E, fish oil, and St. John’s Wort.
- Avoid topical skin products such as tretinoin (Retin-A), retinol, retinoids glycolic acid, or alpha-hydroxy acid or any anti-aging products for at least two (2) days before treatment.
- No waxing, laser treatments, or chemical peels seven (7) prior to treatment.
- Abstain from alcohol, tobacco products, and excessive caffeine for at least 24 hours before your appointment.
- Be sure to discuss all your medications, supplements, and medical conditions with your provider prior to your appointment.
Caring for Dermal Fillers
- Do not touch your fillers or massage your face unless your provider instructs you to.
- Avoid workouts and other strenuous activities for at least 24 hours after your appointment.
- Continue to abstain from alcohol and tobacco products for 48 hours.
- Do not expose yourself to excessive heat for three (3) days after your treatment. This includes sun exposure. Be sure to use daily facial sunscreen.
- Avoid lying down for 4 hours after treatment.
- Sleep face-up for two (2) days to avoid further swelling around your injections.
- Use a cold compress to alleviate any pain.
Results of Dermal Filler
Once your fillers have fully settled, you can enjoy your volumized look for 6 – 18 months, depending on filler(s) used. Over time, the filler will gradually break down and be absorbed into your body, which is completely safe.
Once the filler(s) has absorbed into your body, we recommend coming in for another filler treatment. We will review the progression of your previous treatment’s absorption to give you a timeline of when you will need future touch-ups. We can also recommend other treatments to help complement your filler(s).

Botox vs Fillers: Know the Difference
Botox works by relaxing the muscles, which improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Fillers do not affect your muscles, but instead, they restore volume by “filling” the areas in your face that have started to sag or form wrinkles due to aging. They can also enhance facial symmetry.
