“I feel so blessed to have Dr. Berutti as my personal physician. She is the BEST doctor in so many ways. First, she listens. Second, she truly cares. Also, she has the most relaxing and nonjudgmental bedside manner — she puts to rest personal anxiety about examinations and test results. Her medical knowledge is very impressive. She goes out of her way to help find the best solutions to personal health issues and even to finding the best pharmacy for your pocketbook. I’ve been her patient since 2016, and my health steadily improves. I am ever grateful to her and her warm and friendly staff.” – Donna K.
About Melanie Martin, PA-C
Melanie Martin, PA-C, has been practicing medicine for over 30 years. About halfway through her career, she realized that the “conventional medicine” approach wasn’t always meeting her patients’ health goals and that the gaps in that system did not promote wellness and optimal health.
Melanie decided that she could better help people by using a more integrative approach, so she decided to make a career change 14 years ago. She believes that the key to truly helping patients is to spend plenty of time with them to have ample opportunity to listen to their needs. She incorporates a collaborative approach so that everyone feels involved, educated, and empowered with their personal health care.
Melanie wasn’t born in Texas, but like most transplants, she got here as soon as she could! She moved to Fort Worth at a young age and has stayed in the area ever since. She’s a lover of the Arts and is a member of the Kimball Art Museum. Melanie also enjoys spending time with her 20-year-old son, who attends Texas A&M University.
Melanie has trained and worked under some of the top functional medicine practitioners in the area and is happy to be a part of Dr. Berutti’s team so that she can continue to learn from Dr. Berutti’s vast areas of expertise. She’s also excited to focus on helping her patients get to the root cause(s) of their symptoms and illnesses so they can achieve optimal health and wellness.
We are very happy to have Melanie be a part of our team! Not only is she an experienced Physician’s Assistant, but she is also considered an expert in her field, having provided lectures to her peers on subjects including hormone balancing, nutrition, weight loss, and gut inflammation.

Our Protocols at DLHC in Southlake, Texas
At the beginning of your treatment, you will need at least two in-depth appointments, approximately 3 to 4 weeks apart. More complex diagnostics and treatment plans may require three or more appointments.
Before your first appointment, we will ask you to fill out a Health Questionnaire, a Sleep Questionnaire, and an Adrenal Questionnaire. Completion of these in-depth forms is vital to the treatment process and will help get to the root cause of any issues you are experiencing.
First Appointment
Your first appointment will be 90 minutes long. Long appointments allow our patients to have quality time with their providers to address their symptoms and concerns without being rushed. We trust you will find that going through this process of extensive examination and testing will be well worth your investment in time.
Your labs will be drawn after your first appointment. For female patients, if you have a menstrual cycle, we try to schedule your lab work to be done between day 19 and day 22 of your cycle (day 1 being the first day you start your period).
Second Appointment
At your second appointment, your provider will thoroughly review all lab results with you. Based on your symptoms, history, and lab results, she’ll discuss your specific diagnosis and treatment plan to address deficiencies, imbalances, and other issues. Please be aware that our providers do not prescribe narcotic pain medication.
You can rest assured that we will get to the bottom of your health issues. This isn’t always a quick fix since there are often multiple areas of causation. It typically takes anywhere from six months to a year to address all your concerns, identify all root causes, and get your prescriptions titrated to what works best for you.
“As a new patient with DLHC, I have received superb care from all the staff. My appointments are not rushed, and the medical topics are well-explained. Even when a specialist was needed, DHLC was there to advocate for me to make sure I was getting the necessary treatment on a timely basis. I feel heard and cared for by DLHC. I highly recommend this practice for any health care need that you may have.” – Beth S.
Insurance Coverage
In terms of your office visit, we are an out-of-network provider. The reason for this is that when a practice chooses to accept insurance, insurance companies tell the practice how much time they can spend with each patient, what illnesses and conditions they can treat, and how they can treat them.
In order to get to the root cause of various non-optimum conditions and provide optimal treatment, we find we need more time with our patients and more treatment options than insurance companies are willing to work with.
PPO/HMO Reimbursement
If you have a PPO plan, your insurance company may reimburse you for much of your office visit costs. This depends on your insurance company, what type of plan you have, and your deductibles. You will pay for the appointments at the time of service, and we will provide you with the necessary papers to file for reimbursement with your insurance provider.
If you are on an HMO plan, most likely, your insurance will not cover any of the costs of your office visits. Your lab work will need to go through your Primary Care Physician, or you can utilize our discount program.
Lab Work Coverage
Your insurance will frequently be able to cover all or a majority of your lab work. Labs ordered by Dr. Berutti and PA Melanie are typically covered the same as if your regular doctor wrote them — 90 to 100%. You should, however, ask your insurance company how they cover the labs and which lab network is preferred. We will make sure that we order labs through this preferred provider. If your insurance provider does not offer to cover most of the lab work or if it is being applied to your deductible, we recommend you use our discount program for labs.
To find out what your insurance will cover, we encourage you to call the customer service number on the back of your insurance card and ask a few basic questions:
- Tell them you’re going to see an out-of-network provider (someone not on their list of doctors). Most PPO plans understand people would prefer to see a doctor that they researched or who comes highly recommended by a friend.
- Ask them what the deductible is and what percent they will reimburse for the office visit with an out-of-network doctor or nurse practitioner.
- Tell them that your out-of-network provider is going to order comprehensive lab work. Ask them specifically what percentage of the lab costs they will pay. If it is 90-100%, you are better off using your insurance. If they will cover less than 75%, you will be better off using our laboratory discount program.
